BTA Structural Design was formed in 2001 from a previous partnership, Birdwood Trembath Associates, which was based in Chiswick, West London. Our main office is in a converted barn at Trull Farm just outside Tetbury in Gloucestershire.
Most of our projects are in the Cotswolds, London and the West of England, but many are further afield and overseas.

James Birdwood - Director
James is a chartered Civil & Structural Engineer, educated at Cambridge, from where he went to work for Ove Arup & Partners in London for 8 years, where he became chartered. He left Arups in 1985 and became self employed. He started Birdwood Trembath Associates in 1987 with a fellow Cambridge graduate. In 2001 he set up BTA Structural Design Ltd.
Rona Burnett - Chartered Engineer, Associate
Rona is a chartered Civil Engineer, educated at Strathclyde University, and also began her working life at Arup in 1993, and then spent four years with Skanska Technology, before joining BTA in May 2007.
Sean Shanks - Project Engineer, Associate
Sean is a Project Engineer who graduated from Queens University Belfast in 2001, from where he went to work with Ennis Gruhn and Partners in Belfast before joining BTA in Oct 2006.
Kate Honeyborne - Operations Manager, Associate
Kate is our office manager and has been at BTA since 2010. She studied English, Drama and Psychology at Manchester University and has experience in marketing and book-keeping in which she is MAAT qualified.
James Packer - Project Engineer
James joined us in early 2020. An experienced Project Engineer with over 25 years in the industry, he moved to BTA from Momentum.
Joe Dimmery - Chartered Engineer, Associate
Joe joined BTA in August 2024 with over eleven years of experience at OPS, Buro Happold, Foster and Partners. He is a Chartered Engineer and graduated from Sheffield University with a degree in Engineering and Architecture.
Bryn Davies- Technician
Bryn is our Structural Technician. He has 30 years CAD experience including Revit. He joined BTA in December 2023.
Mogamad Watson - Project Engineer
Mogamad has seven years design experience following a BEng Civil Engineering at Swansea University He joined BTA in March 2025 and is working towards chartership.
